Mackaya Bella … feels like home
Welcome to Mackaya Bella, a friendly, four star graded Guest House situated in Glenwood – an upmarket, yet quirky suburb of Durban. Mike and Nicki are the owners and we live on site, with our family and 2 well trained hospitality cats. We’ve both travelled a lot and have worked in industry for years, so expect a warm welcome, professional service, good food, and clean, comfy rooms.
We like to think we have a little oasis here, tucked away from the busy outside world. From the moment you step inside, you’ll be surrounded by our indigenous garden with a gorgeous array of different plants, animal and birdlife. It’s peaceful, pretty and definitely calming.
Being Green is important to us and we are always on the lookout for new ways to save energy, recycle and reduce our carbon footprint.
Whether you’re here on business, to study or on holiday, we hope to make you feel that you’ve chosen the right place to stay and are now part of our extended family.
Many of our return guests tell us that this feels like their home away from home, which is the best compliment. You can see what else they say on Trip Advisor.
Since we bought the place, we’ve revamped all our rooms to make them as scrumptious as possible. Naturally we still have all the creature comforts such as DSTV, air conditioners, mini fridges, study desks, coffee & tea trays etc.
Each room has its own vibe and colours. We have three rooms upstairs and three rooms downstairs. The dining area and kitchen is upstairs (in case that’s important to you), and the downstairs has – well no stairs, so is easily accessible from the car park and each has their own private entrance. Some of our rooms have King sized beds which can converted into Twins (2 x single beds) if necessary. Oh, and two of our luxury rooms have ball and claw baths as well as showers.
Then there’s our Family Room, which is just a few meters away from the main guest house. This lovely retreat has one bedroom with a king sized bed, which again can be made up into two x singles, plus a fold out double sofa couch (for kids under 12yrs only), a sitting room, kitchen and en-suite.
In addition, we also have two self catering Budget rooms. for singles only. If you’re here to study or on a budget, then this is for you! They are both separate to the main building, are serviced daily, includes free Wifi and secure parking, as well as a buffet breakfast (cereal, yoghurt, fruit, toast, juices and tea/coffee). Each unit has a single bed, TV, toilet, shower, cupboard, desk, sink, microwave, portable stove, crockery and cutlery. However there is a minimum stay of 3 nights.
Hopefully you like the sound of us and now you’re ready to book. Simply click on the “Book Now” button below and hey presto, you’re on your way to visiting us.

Our Green Ethos
Indigenous gardens: When Mackaya Bella was established, an indigenous garden theme was chosen. Due to carefully chosen plants, the garden always has something in bloom year round and requires very little water to sustain it. With the Province frequently experiencing near drought conditions, we are happy to say we use very little water on its upkeep.
It’s not just about being trendy and saving money. Being Green is an ethos – a way of life we all need to adapt to and embrace. We have attempted this is several ways:
